Green Upholstery Fabrics Entrepreneur

Upholstery fabrics are used to cover couches, chairs and other pieces of furniture. They are generally very heavy fabrics and sewn by professionals using industrial machines. Another use for upholstery fabrics is in the manufacturing of cars for the seats, seat backs and the headliner.

While many people do not think about the materials that are used for any of these items, many people are more eco-conscious these days would prefer a greener choice for the places they sit.

What skills do I need?

Green Upholstery Fabrics Entrepreneur

Working with heavy upholstery requires knowledge of textiles of all kinds, including those that are not technically green. You should know the advantages and disadvantages of each of the alternative fibers as well as the best way to cut them, dye them (using ecologically friendly dyes, of course) and how they should be treated to prevent stretching, pilling, tearing or other issues during their use, both while being sewn onto the item that it is being used for and after it is sold to the final consumer.

What education do I need?

A degree in textiles, design or something similar is necessary. It should also be important to stay on top of the latest innovations in fabrics and techniques so that you can remain competitive.

Who is the target market for this business?

You will be selling green upholstery fabrics to furniture makers both commercial and custom, as well as possibly to local auto makers who will use the upholstery for their seats.

What should I be able to demonstrate to my potential customers?

Show them how well the green material works, how well it holds its shape or its dye and how soft or strong it is. Make sure that the sample is attractive, able to be removed so that it can be inspected from every angle and most importantly that it is representative of the material that you want to sell. Explain how it is green in great detail and explain its benefits and advantages. Make sure that you are ready and able to answer any question that they may have.

Who is the competition?

You will compete with mass produced and probably cheaper upholstery fabrics for the bulk of your business. Your main advantage over them will be the fact that you are green but they are not. Hopefully that will be enough of an edge. If not, you will probably make the bulk of your sales from the smaller, independent furniture makers who will be custom making many of their pieces from customer orders.

What is the potential market size?

If you are located near an auto manufacturing sub-plant (i.e. one that builds seats); you will be able to get orders after dealing with the auto maker directly. If the car maker is one that builds hybrids or electric cars you are far more likely to have a positive response from them.

Print and Be Green - Eco-Friendly Font, Xerox's ColorQube & 2 Printer Companies Make 'Greenest' List

First, there were greener inks, followed by greener printers, and now, a green font? Yes, indeed it is true. Sure, you can squeeze more pages onto a single sheet, print on both sides of a sheet, print in draft mode, and now: you can print with holes in your letters. It's called Ecofont, and their producers promise it will utilize 20% less ink when compared to normal printing. It is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux systems, and closely resembles Arial in appearance. Ecofont can be downloaded for free from the link provided in the resource area below.

In other green printing news, printing giant Xerox announced in June its efforts to make printing greener by going cartridge-free - their newest printer model series offers the capability to use solid ink sticks. They claim no stains will be forthcoming.

According to Xerox the new printer produces 90% less waste in ink than other printers, and keeping the Xerox history in mind, their research and development reports are relatively trustworthy.

This new development is called a ColorQube, and currently costs a whopping ,000. It might be necessary to stick with recycled ink cartridges for today but in spite of the ColorQube's high expense now, new technology tends to drop in price eventually. Businesses in the market for high-quality, waste-reducing printing equipment should consider this new option along with the rest.

Growing trees to keep the earth clean and harvesting rain water are considered best eco-friendly measures known all over. But, the problem of landfill situation is getting worse these days. And to cope up with the situation, it has become important to support the measure of glass bottle recycling. Adding to this, reprocessing of bottles have been proving beneficial all over in more than one way.

The reprocessing method not only supports in reducing the landfill rate but also comes with several other benefits which one will come to know in this article.

Recycling Glass Bottle - Eco-Friendly Solution

One can easily put glass to good use by sending trash to bottle depot. Depots work in different ways to bring the used container for the reuse. According to such depots, beneficial aspects of recycled glass are as follows:

Glass is recyclable

One throws glass into a bin from where it is taken to the treatment plant. There, the containers get sorted by color and are washed to make them free of any kind of impurities. Next step at depots or reprocessing centers include the crushing of items followed by melting process.

After the process of melting, bottle is moulded to give new shape either of jars or containers. Alternative uses of glass are found in brick manufacturing and for decoration as well. The final step is to send such recycled products to shop for consumers' use. It can be said that glass doesn't degrade with the recycling process; it is 100 % recyclable and can be used again and again.

Reduction in energy use

It is well known that glass is produced with the help of three essential raw materials called as sand, limestone and soda ash. And formation of fresh items need more usage of raw materials and oil as well. Adding to it, more energy is required to produce new items. Here, it should be known to all that the reprocessing of such items needs less raw materials and oil which indicates that energy is saved by going for the reprocessing methods of professional depots exiting these days.

You should also know one thing that it is estimated that by the end of year 2013, modern glass manufacturers are planning to make use of 50 percent of recycled material in the formation of fresh bottles, caps, containers, jars etc. And this step will save that much energy which would be enough to power 45,000 households for one complete year. Adding to it, it will also assist in reducing landfill situation by 181,550 tons of waste every month. Thus, we should come forward for recycling glass and conserve raw materials, lower manufacturing costs and reduce CO2 emissions for the betterment of environment.

Recycling Glass Bottle - Eco-Friendly Solution
